After studying Physics in Gießen, Germany, Udo worked towards his PhD in Electrical Engineering at ISFH in Emmerthal, Germany. His PhD thesis on ion implanted IBC solar cells and carrier selective POLy-Si on Oxide (POLO) contacts was recognised by the SolarWorld Junior Einstein Award. In 2017 he joined UNSW Sydney for working on plated contacts for IBC solar cells.
Currently, he works in on POLO contacts again, with a focus on simple local doping techniques, aiming to fabricate cost-effective high-efficiency IBC solar cells.
