Utkarshaa Varshney won the Faculty of Engineering heats for the 3 Minute Thesis competition today with her presentation: Solar cells: It is all about the toppings! She presented a talk about her work on the influence of passivation layers on light and elevated temperature induced degradation (LeTID) of industrial silicon solar cells. In order to explain this topic to the uninitiated audience, she presented the analogy between solar cells and pizzas. In both pizzas and solar cells, the top layers play a key role in their long term “performance”! Utkarshaa will now continue to the University finals which will be on 17 September 2019.
